Himeji Castle is a Japanese castle located in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture. The main buildings such as the castle tower and turret that were built in the early Edo period still exist and have been designated as national treasures and important cultural properties. Additionally, the inside of the central moat, including the main wall, has been designated as a special national historic site as the “Himeji Castle Ruins.” It has also been registered on UNESCO’s World Heritage (Cultural Heritage) list, and has been selected as one of Japan’s 100 Famous Castles. Another name is Shirasagi Castle (Hakurojo, Shirasagijo. For details, see the origin of the name and other names).
